Firefox releases Geode

GPS technology already was a revolutionary innovation but now if I say that Firefox can help you find your current location while surfing with your laptop sitting at any place then don’t get surprised. According to their Lab blog you can trace places such as restaurants, hotels etc when you are at some unknown place. With the official launch of the new but experimental version Geode, Mozilla has shown its clear intentions to include this amazing location-aware tool in its later releases. Geode is based on Skyhook’s Loki technology which performs the mapping of the Wi-Fi signals in that area to your location. However soon they are going to support new W3C Geolocation Specification also which will give you the discretionary option of whether to grant access to the location or not. Geode is indeed a wonderful tool and very soon will be available with the coming versions of Firefox. Moreover if Mozilla is able to work out this feature in its soon arriving mobile browser then it will do wonders.

The project is still in progress. Let’s see how this tool is used by web developers to build up exciting applications.

Firefox Add-ons

With its fantastic extensions and upgraded versions Mozilla Firefox has become the first choice for most of the users. Though it has still long way to go as most of the websites are designed keeping Internet Explorer in mind, but the mediocrity of IE has inclined the web developers to look for Firefox. Firefox already released its version 3 and along with that it has once again offered host of add-ons. Now you can access the Add-ons dialog box with the tab facility. So now you no longer have to go to addons.mozilla.org to search and download the add-ons. I have described below some of the best add-ons that you can download for comfortable and tussle-free surfing.

Interclue helps you to get rid of clicking the countless links while surfing. It is sometimes dangerous to click on an unknown link as the website can be potentially dangerous. Interclue pops up a window when you scroll your mouse over the link and shows the preview of the website. It also warns you of the harmful links. Cooliris is also a similar add-on however has fewer features.

Download Manager Vs DownThemAll

Firefox’s default download manager is quite irritating especially if your internet connection is not even. It is not suitable for downloading large files as it abruptly completes the downloading once the connection is lost. To resolve this drawback Firefox has now come with DownThemAll Which not only recovers the downloads but also allows the discretion of selectively downloading the data from the page. It works much faster than the Download Manager.

Open link in IE Tab

To deal with the websites which are designed keeping Microsoft IE in mind, Firefox is ready with its amazing feature which allows the user to harness the functionality of IE in Firefox Tab itself. Firefox can now embed the IE engine and provides the option of “Open link in IE Tab”. Isn’t it amazing?

Security and Anonymity

To stop the Adware and the pop-up Ad windows Adblock Plus would be the correct choice. For anonymously surfing the web you can use FoxyProxy. So, now you need not download any other proxy software or use any proxy servers. It uses the Privoxy global router networks encryption. Secure login along with the standard Password Manager provides the phishing filter. It alarms you whenever you encounter a website with fake credentials.

What about Fun and Entertainment?

After you are convinced that you are surfing safe in a hassle proof environment of Firefox you definitely would like to have some fun and the music could be the best option. Astonishingly, Firefox too knows that and hence its FoxyTunes enables your browser to include a slim audio player which can use any of the installed media players on your PC. Moreover, for stylish and 3D image view and slideshows PicLens does the wonders. It searches the images from searchable databases such as Facebook, Google etc. If you still want more, you can use the messenger services such as Gtalk, MSN or AIM on the ChatZilla which uses IRC i.e. Internet Relay Chat.

There are lot more fascinating add-ons for developers and users but all can not be discussed here. If you have any query please post your comment.
