Where to host your website?

People often ask me which hosting server one should choose to host their website. I suggest them to look for certain key criteria while reading reviews of web hosts. Most important criterion is server up time as it is highly undesirable for any business or blog to remain unavailable even for a second. You can get the list of top ten web hosts at wpdesigner.com rated according to their up time, price and other important factors. If your hosting server cannot guarantee 99.99% uptime then it is not suitable for any kind of business. Though server up time of more than 99.80% is considered fair enough, but I would suggest such web hosts only for blogs and non commercial websites. Next key factor could be customer support. Since there is no much difference in prices of servers which supports similar kind of hosting, such as PHP-MySql based websites, hence it is not very important while selecting the web hosting server. You must inquire about the kind of customer service offered by them. Almost all the servers provide free setup. But customer service is very important. For instance the customer service of Byethost is really pathetic and I was even irked once.

If customer service is fine then you should look for the disk space they are offering, easy interface as well as advanced control panel such as cpanel. Some of the good webs hosting services are offered by hostmonster, Fatcow, Hostgator and Godaddy. However I found Godaddy very costly and you can not do transaction on GoDaddy without a credit card. So alone Paypal may not work. Many of the above web hosts offer you a free domain name with the hosting. Moreover, if you are willing to host a wordpress blog then you can get free wordpress themes and other wordpress resources from wpdesigner.com. It is a nice one stop site to know about web hosting servers, their reliable reviews and many other resources to host your own website.

EDGE vs GPRS

GPRS was a real hit in the cell phone industry. Almost all the telecom service provider now offers GPRS services. Internet access via GPRS on the mobile phones is common these days. I used it with Airtel. All you need is a GPRS enabled mobile phone. But now it is the age of 3G driven by EDGE technology. EDGE or Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution, I heard a year ago that this technology was introduced in Europe and mostly used with iphones for global internet connectivity. Also that it allows global roaming facility. Its high data transfer rate of 384 kbps is 3 times the data transfer rate as compared to GPRS. It consists of the 8 pattern time slot, and the speed of 384 kbps could be achieved when all the 8 time slots were used. Based on an 8 PSK modulation, it allows higher bit rate across the aerial Interface. 3 bits represents one symbol. And EDGE Rate = 3x GPRS Rate. (Got this from tripod.com).

EDGE is nothing but EGPRS. GPRS uses various radio channel coding schemes allow bitrates from 9 to over 171.2 kbit/s (if device were to use all 8 channels without error correction) per user. And one more thing, EDGE is not related directly to 3G, rather EDGE belongs to 2.5 G category. GPRS belongs to 2G.
