Firefox releases Geode

GPS technology already was a revolutionary innovation but now if I say that Firefox can help you find your current location while surfing with your laptop sitting at any place then don’t get surprised. According to their Lab blog you can trace places such as restaurants, hotels etc when you are at some unknown place. With the official launch of the new but experimental version Geode, Mozilla has shown its clear intentions to include this amazing location-aware tool in its later releases. Geode is based on Skyhook’s Loki technology which performs the mapping of the Wi-Fi signals in that area to your location. However soon they are going to support new W3C Geolocation Specification also which will give you the discretionary option of whether to grant access to the location or not. Geode is indeed a wonderful tool and very soon will be available with the coming versions of Firefox. Moreover if Mozilla is able to work out this feature in its soon arriving mobile browser then it will do wonders.

The project is still in progress. Let’s see how this tool is used by web developers to build up exciting applications.
